CLOWN WORKSHOP with Jef Johnson

CRA’P Workshops 2024

Saturday 18 may from 15:30h to 19:30h and Sunday 19 May from 10h to 14h

Perhaps the greatest discovery for any performer is the alignment of the artistic self emaxpression with the living instinct. In nature, form comes into being. In ludic exploration, “game” comes into form in the moment of action and relationship of one thing to another. This is a bold and fundamental concept within Jef Johnson’s clown pedagogy. Being a participant in the immediate circumstance and experience is the first step. Learning to bridge the subjective experience with the objective encounter is key for discovering absurd logic, possibility, and personal humor.

This is at the very core of clown. The ability to be in the vibration of “stupid genius” with the confidence to discover, to connect the physical with the fantastic, to see any possibility in the moment. In this workshop we will explore: objective experience stupidity the senses spontaneous associations relationship with the immediate environment communication fascination curiosity surprise direct contact indirect contact impulses of individual experience corporeal transformation action sense of direction relationship with light and gravity forward action vs vacillating action perception and emotion transformation of emotional states energy tempo-rhythm Jef Johnson will introduce his pedagogy of creative discovery and apply this to the entrance and game of the clown, and also the game of life.

“The simplicity of naive existence is the root that nurtures all things.” Jef Johnson
