CRA’P Workshops 2023

1 and 2 July from 10h to 14h

Physical and vocal training is a permanent research tool for the actor. The body-mind training, besides providing the necessary technical instruments for the performing arts, becomes a constant searching of the actor on oneself and on one’s creative potentialities. Through collective work, the art of the physical and ethical ‘relationship’ in theatre is developed.

The training principles to be implemented are those learned with the director Eugenio Barba and the maestra Iben Nagel Rasmussen during a decade of work at Odin Teatret, reunited with the research on presence developed in Colombia and Latin America by Teatro de la Memoria and Carlos Simioni.

The training consists of a collective structure of exercises in which different ‘qualities of energy’ are worked out. Through these exercises actors learns to relate to the space, the rhythm and to his/her partners on stage. Also to learn to identify the organic impulses of the body, to modulate the “forces” transforming them into dilated energy, and to enhance vital and vibrant creative actions. In a second moment, technical tools will be taught with which to find different possibilities of approaching actions, and to dance with intent in order to set scores of physical actions. Music and singing will be elements present throughout the work and a short text will be addressed.

Suited to scenic theater, dance, live arts, performance and music artists, with or without experience, who want to work on their stage presence.

Sofía Monsalve. She trains as an actress from the early age of 4, together with her family’s company Teatro de la Memoria directed by the master Juan Monsalve. At the age of 17, she began studying Anthropology at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota and travelled to Europe to begin a process of training and work with Odin Teatret, directed by Eugenio Barba, which lasted 10 years. In 2008, Iben Nagel Rasmussen (an Odin actress since 1966) took her on as a disciple and she joined the international theatre research group The Bridge of Winds, directed by Rasmussen herself. In 2008 she began working as an actress at Odin Teatret. In addition to her work as an actress, she works as a pedagogue by giving seminars in various academic and theatrical institutions around the world. In 2017 she created the one-woman performance “Candy Land, tierra de lobos”, directed by Ana Woolf (Argentina) and performing it in several national and international festivals (Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Spain). She was winner of the ICETEX Young Talents Grant 2016, for a theatrical training and research project in Brazil with the Lume Teatro of the University of Campinas SP. And she did an artistic residency with the Wu Menjui Company and the National School of Drama in Beijing (China).

In 2015, she returned to Colombia, where she inherited the artistic direction of Teatro de la Memoria, where she works as an actress, director and cultural manager. She convenes a group of young people who are trained under her guidance and develop original and interdisciplinary collective creations with them.
