CRA’P Workshops 2019

HINDUISM: ART AND TRADITION

The Centre KALARIGRAM of Auroville, India, comes back to CRA’P and we organise two weeks of activities based on Kalaripayattu, a millenary tradition of knowledge and practices about martial arts, health and spirituality.

Between the 7 and 23 July, with the collaboration of the space Nassara (Masnou) and Mollet del Vallès City Council, we will venture into this ancestral tradition and its legacy guided by Lakshman Gurukkal, one of the most renowned masters today and his young talented attendant Akshay T S.

KALARIPAYATTU

From 8 to 19 July
Monday to Friday from 9h to 11h and/or from 19:30 to 21:30

The Kalaripayattu of Kerala is one of the most ancient martial art forms in the world. Through it’s very scientific physical discipline, it opens up the practitioner energy channels and pushes the boundaries of the body to become strong, flexible and focused – physically, mentally and spiritually; the reason why theatre and dance artists practice it as a daily discipline.

As an ancient martial art form, Kalaripayattu draws on the vocabulary of nature and its movements. Its techniques are a combination of steps (chuvadu) and postures (vadivu). The postures are named after animals, and inspired by observation of their stances.

Kalaripayattu remains closely connected to yoga, dance and performing arts.
This workshop will take participants through the basics of Kalaripayattu, and is open to beginners as well as those who are familiar with the practice.
