– Grandmother Wore Us Out, workshop by Haneen Koraz, Gaza, 4:09 min, 2024
Fourteen girls from Deir el-Balah created the film entirely themselves: they wrote the story, developed the storyboard, drew and animated the characters, and finally directed and recorded the sounds and voices.
The story focuses on a displaced family living in a classroom in a UNRWA school. The children spend the day collecting water to fill the classroom’s large water tank. At the end of the day, exhausted, the tank is full… but suddenly, the grandmother appears, clean, well-groomed, and radiant…
– Home, by Ahmad Saleh, Jordan, Germany, 3:50 min, 2012
A family lived for generations in a spacious, beautiful, and generous home. The generosity of the house became part of their culture, and guests were always welcomed and able to enjoy a pleasant stay. Until one guest arrived with a different plan.
– From the hole of a Needle, by Shereen Abdel Karim, Gaza, 4:53 min, 2022
A personal project with a communal impact, this film transforms individual memories of suffering into a collective memory. Through satirical and realistic scenes, it portrays various public spaces in Gaza City and addresses social issues that, over the past 15 years, have become an inseparable part of the lives of its inhabitants.
The project also explores the landscape of Gaza through the digitization and 3D modelling of these spaces, in an attempt to imagine what its present-day natural environment might look like as the blockade continues.
– Memory of the Land, by Samira Badran, Spain, Palestine, 13:00 min, 2017
A reflection on the human condition under the yoke of different forms of violence, and on collective memory and identity as forms of resilience.
Palestine. A body becomes trapped at a checkpoint, a fundamental mechanism of the Israeli occupation. The body is subjected to structural and physical violence, aggressive and arbitrary, which restricts and attacks its freedom of movement and its very existence.
– Nobody (Without a Body), by Msallam Hdaib, Jordan, 6:45 min, 2025
After an airstrike destroys his home, a newly married man survives as nothing more than a conscious head.
Through stylized stop-motion animation, the film follows the protagonist’s surreal journey with his wife and baby.
– Mariam, by Dana Durr, Palestine, The Netherlands, 5:00 min, 2020
A young woman climbs one of her favourite olive trees to enjoy Palestinian traditions, but her peace is interrupted.
This animated short film follows a woman’s journey to find strength within herself through her culture and heritage after the loss of her beloved paradise.
When she witnesses the destruction of a cherished tree, a deep and indestructible bond is traced through the motifs of olive trees and tatreez (traditional embroidery), in this moving expression of the unity between the people and their land.
An exhibition featuring two works in acrylic and oil on canvas (“Palestina al cor I” and “Palestina al cor II”) by artist David Serra will also be on display in the lobby of the La Marineta Cultural Centre from November 6 to December 5.
Free entry with reverse box office.
The materials contained in the OVNI Archives are the result of various thematic research projects, a whole constellation of titles with the common denominator of their free expression and reflection on individual and collective fears and pleasures. It builds together a vision of multiple facets, like thousands of little eyes, that deepen and explore our world, or announce other possible ones. www.desorg.org
“Animated Palestine is a collective of Palestinian and international animation filmmakers whose films address different aspects of Palestinian life through art. In the face of the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, we felt the need to come together to support one another as an artistic community, creating stronger bonds among ourselves and helping our films reach a wider audience by telling stories about Palestine. The aim of our group is to showcase different expressions of animated art made in Palestine and about Palestine”.
